Entwined

Not a candle of light
That flickers, goes out

But woven of colour
Of bobbins, of shuttles

Rhythm and sparking
As patterns repeating

Of threads woven from space
When we were first new

We are now approaching Hove

Please mind the gap

between the platform and the train

                  the sunshine and the rain

                  the heartbeat and the brain

                  the laughter and the pain

                  the summit and the drain

On Joy

Autumn winds,
rustling of leaves
sunshine on shimmering gold.

Children laughing
playing without a care
seeing only themselves and the game.

Here one day,
gone the next,
fleeting, free, like a butterfly.

Everywhere there is more
to discover

Everywhere there is more

Everywhere there is more
to indulge
to entice
to impress

Life

What every person thinks
of what every person thought
of what every person said
of what each might have done

Trust gone out the window

Fear won?

Not Exactly

Not exactly standing still.

Some things are still getting done,
Meals,
Washing,
Some thinking,
Some pondering.

And on days there is movement,
Motivation,
Energy,
New things,
Some excitement.

And on days,
My bed
Is the best place there is,
Enticing,
Captivating.

But where am I?
Am I going?
Or coming?

Mixed Feelings

Outside, a sunny day,
Celebrations, hip hooray.

Hide away, what to do?
Who to be? Missing you.

Inside, quite subdued,
Melancholy, in a mood.

What to do, where to go,
Even still I love you so.

Gone away, won’t return,
Feelings for you they still burn.

Moving on? Can’t let go,
In the quiet I miss you so.

And now you're gone

In February 2002 my wife Rosemary took her own life.
When a loved one takes the path of suicide it leaves a lot of unanswered questions. It is difficult, maybe impossible, to understand why.

Losing our friend is hard,
Losing a partner is tough,
But when they take their own life
You feel you haven’t done enough -
To help, to understand, to simplify their choices,
You can tell yourself that they were sick,
But you keep on hearing voices:

If you’d done this or you’d done that
They’d still be here today,
The thoughts, the guilt, the blame,
It just will not go away.

But there are so many facets
Each one has played its part,
We've done what seemed best at the time,
That felt right in our heart.

Wonderness

A wonder-day to invent
a wonder-petal to scent
a wonder-time for fun
a wonder-race to run
a wonder-knock at the door
a wonder-lust to explore
a wonder-apple to bite
