And now you're gone

In February 2002 my wife Rosemary took her own life.
When a loved one takes the path of suicide it leaves a lot of unanswered questions. It is difficult, maybe impossible, to understand why.

Losing our friend is hard,
Losing a partner is tough,
But when they take their own life
You feel you haven’t done enough -
To help, to understand, to simplify their choices,
You can tell yourself that they were sick,
But you keep on hearing voices:

If you’d done this or you’d done that
They’d still be here today,
The thoughts, the guilt, the blame,
It just will not go away.

But there are so many facets
Each one has played its part,
We've done what seemed best at the time,
That felt right in our heart.

She has a vision and a plan
To climb up to the heights,
From shadowy gorge where she feels trapped,
To pastures new where promise grows,
To make it, if she can.

The path she has, it is so steep,
But this she feels she must complete.
The struggle’s hard,
She stumbles much,
And finally she falls -
Into the arms of the God she loves.
At peace she circles with the doves.
Picture
She’s free to walk the dales again
His love has transformed all her pain.
She appreciates the gifts she has
How much she gave and what it meant.
Purpose is clear,
A life well lived,
Forever now she is content.

And peace will come to those who mourn,
And happy thoughts they will return,
Of times we've had, we've loved, we've shared,
That lead us to a brighter dawn.
We are so thankful to have known,
An angel who has cared.
