On Joy

15/10/2014

Autumn winds,
rustling of leaves
sunshine on shimmering gold.

Children laughing
playing without a care
seeing only themselves and the game.

Here one day,
gone the next,
fleeting, free, like a butterfly.

A miracle,
new-born in mother’s arms,
pain swept away, just soft smiles now.

Exhilaration
my horse canters!
Harmony, my signals understood.

Lost!
Wrenched away
in an instant, my world turned upside-down.

Gone
Masked out by sorrow,
lost in the depths of despair.

Smothered
Covered by dark clouds,
barely even imagined.

Waiting
around the next corner.
Ready to surprise me once more.

Friends, old & new,
celebration!
Together at my birthday.

Simple sights,
missed in busy-ness & complexity,
seen anew, the veil pulled away.

Still, on The Downs
bright in the sun,
just me, the trees, the hills.

Transfixed,
lost in song,
lifted to another world.

Entwined,
Sorrow & Joy on a journey,
partners, two sides of a coin.

Adrift,
a small voice in the desert,
now accepted in a nurturing community.

Awakened,
invited on,
to a grander Joy!
